Young Professionals Panel on Climate Change

Young Professionals' Impact on Advancing Climate Solutions

  • Objective:
The YP panel on Climate Change aims to tackle the urgent issue of global climate change, especially in Africa, bringing perspectives from other parts of the globe including Europe and the US. The panelists include YP’s in the industry and academia. The panel will engage in insightful discussions, exploring the causes, impacts, and viable solutions to combat climate change. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the panel seeks to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices,  at local, regional, and international levels. With a focus on innovative strategies, and community engagement, this platform strives to inspire collective action towards a greener and more resilient future.

Communications Team Lead, IEEE YP Climate and Sustainability Task Force (CSTF)
Dr. Sneha Satish Hegde is currently employed as a postdoctoral researcher at Ecole Centrale Lyon and KAPTEOS. She recently completed her doctoral studies in Electronics at the University of Montpellier, France. Her research project aligns with the Territorial Just Transition Plan and the Energy-Climate Plan in two key ways: First, by investigating the aging of components in future HVDC and MVDC energy networks, critical for renewable energy integration. Second, by studying eco-friendly insulation materials, it aims to reduce system size, enhance defect detection, and lower the carbon footprint in component manufacturing. This research offers valuable insights for developing sustainable, compact, and environmentally responsible energy network components.
Since 2019, she has been a member of IEEE and DEIS, taking on the role of Europe representative for DEIS Young Professionals (YP) in September 2022. Recently, she was appointed as the Chair of DEIS Women In Engineering (WIE). In January 2023, she joined the Computer Society (CS) and currently serves as the Region 8 (Europe, Africa, Middle-East) Student Activities Committee (SAC) Coordinator and chairs the global event TechX for IEEE CS and leads the Communications team for the IEEE Young Professionals Climate and Sustainability Task Force (CSTF).
