Sally Musonye
Sally is a design and construction engineer at Kenya Power and founder of AshGold Africa Initiative. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Nairobi (UoN) and is a registered graduate engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
She promotes STEM education, women empowerment, and youth engagement through the initiative across rural Kenya. She has impacted 11+ schools and 6,000+ students and mentors in efforts to boost access to quality education and clean power. Her most recent project was at St. Peter’s Ngengekani Mixed Secondary School where she installed a 2.2kW off-grid solar supply to serve the institution.
Sally is a fellow of the inaugural Power Africa Young Women in African Power (WIAP) program and a YALI alumna. She is a recipient of the KPLC Excellence Award for outstanding performance, IEEE Kenya Section Women in Engineering (WIE) Achievement Award, Africa Queen of Energy – Philanthropy category award (2021), and the Presidential Commendation Trailblazer award (2022).
As a VOLT graduate and mentor in IEEE, she volunteers as the Treasurer (Kenya Section), Region 8 SAC- WIE Student Branch Affinity Groups coordinator, WIE Lead for IEEE Africa Council, and the East Africa representative for Women in Power under the Power and Energy Society (PES).
