Dr. Marie Chantal Cyulinyana

Dr. Marie Chantal Cyulinyana is the Science and Technology Foresight Analyst for Rwanda National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), where she is in charge of the analysis of Science and Technology (S&T) current trends and future needs and provision of policy recommendations on S&T. Prior to joining NCST, Dr. Cyulinyana served the University of Rwanda (UR) as the Physics lecturer at College of Science and Technology (UR-CST), Physics Department (2011-2021). where she is still affiliated as honorary lecturer in physics department.  She is a co-founder and the president of Rwanda association for women in science and engineering (RAWISE), which aims to empower women in science and engineering. Marie Chantal has been actively working towards gender equity in STEM-related fields by organizing and participating in workshops and mentoring activities.  She is a member of various national and International science organizations aiming at promoting gender equity and equality.  With team, she has published two articles and other related reports on gender inclusivity particularly in STEM.

Cyulinyana had a post doctorate fellowship for two years from South Africa National Research Foundation (NRF) at University of Witwatersrand in Physics department working on modelling and optimization of solar energy technologies (2019-2020).

Dr. Cyulinyana holds a PHD degree in Physics from the University of Johannesburg, which was sponsored by the Organization for Women in Science in Developing Countries (OWSD). She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Witwatersrand South Africa and a postgraduate Diploma in mathematical sciences from AIMS-South Africa. She holds a BSc degree in Physics and Chemistry with Education from the University of Rwanda College of Education (UR-CE), former Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).  In addition, she holds different professional certificates; in “Sustainable Energy: Design a Renewable Future”, and certificate in energy efficiency to name a few.  She has over ten (10) years’ experience of teaching physics on undergraduate level. She is an active researcher in physics and renewable energy fields, with more than six publications in internationally recognized journals.

Marie Chantal was awarded by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences-Next Einstein Forum Initiative and MasterCard Foundation, a TTP Women in science “first’ Awards 2019.  For defying the status quo and blazing the pathway in science for the next generation of girls in science, on 10th February 2019.
