Iwona Bisaga
Iwona Bisaga is a Research Associate on the Modern Energy Cooking Services Programme (MECS), leading the humanitarian and institutional workstream, as well as MECS’s work in Rwanda. She specializes in the socioeconomics of energy access in low-income contexts, with a particular focus on off-grid electrification and access to modern energy for cooking.
Between 2018-2020, she headed the research department at one of the major providers of off-grid energy systems in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Having previously worked at NGOs in Madagascar and Ecuador, at Engineers without Borders where she managed energy access and water, sanitation and hygiene programmes globally, and at Chatham House, where she led efforts on harmonizing humanitarian energy access indicators, Iwona brings a diverse experience cutting across non-profit, private and policy sectors, and academia. She has a PhD in Energy (University College London), a MSc in Development Administration and Planning (University College London), and an MA (SocSci) in Sociology and Anthropology (University of Glasgow).
