What kind of papers can I submit?
You can submit two types of papers for presentation at PowerAfrica 2021:
- Full papers – mature results or completed projects and should not exceed 5 pages
- Short papers (*new) – targeting practitioners – interim results, experiences and perspectives and should be up to 3 pages in length including a short reference section.
If your paper is accepted and presented during the conference it will be submitted for publication in IEEE Xplore®.

How do I register for the conference?

How much do I need to pay to register for the virtual conference?
The amount you pay depends on whether you are an IEEE PES or IAS Member, IEEE Member, IEEE Student Member and Non-Member. Authors pay a slightly higher rate than non-authors. More information on how much you need to pay will be updated soon on the registration page
Is there funding available to participate in the conference?
We do not have any open funding opportunities.
Are there any discounts available?
IEEE members receive a discount on registration fees. PES and IAS members receive a further discount on the registration fees. IEEE Student members pay half price.
All attendees will receive a further 25% discount if they take advantage of the Early Bird Registration rates.
In addition to this all participants who attended PowerAfrica2020 are eligible for a further 10% discount on Full Conference Registration fees for the PowerAfrica 2021 Conference to be held in Nairobi, Kenya.
What is included in the cost of my registration?
Full Conference Registration entitles you to attend the Opening ceremony; Closing ceremony; All Free Networking Sessions; All Plenary & Panel sessions; All Technical Paper sessions; All Exhibitions and Smart Village events. Tutorials are not included.
What happens once I register?
Once you register, you will receive an email with a confirmation of your registration. Within the next few days you will received detailed instructions regarding conference attendance.
Can I register for the conference once it has begun?
Yes you can register for the conference during the conference and even after so as to access on-demand content.
When does the conference start?
The conference is scheduled to take place from Monday 23rd August 2021 to Friday 27th August 2021.
What time does the conference start?
On each day the conference will begin at 06:00 AM (GMT) Convert to your local time here.
Where can I get the event program?
We are currently developing the program but once ready you can get a copy of the program here
What is an in-person conference?
An in-person conference is hosted at a physical location. As an attendee you will be able to access, watch and hear presentations while participating in real time questions and answer sessions in a face-to-face environment.
What is a virtual conference?
A virtual conference is hosted entirely over the Internet. As an attendee you will be able to access, watch and hear presentations from your computer or handheld device while participating in real time questions and answer sessions.
Attendees participate through a virtual platform on a conference website designed specifically for the virtual conference.
Will I have access to the recordings and materials?
Conference proceedings will be availed to all participants.

Can I support PowerAfrica Conference as an individual?

What are my options for sponsoring / exhibiting / advertising at the conference?
Organizations and individuals can purchase a customised sponsorship package, exhibit booths, mobile app banner ads, website ads or virtual platform ads in the conference program.
